Is there a better combination than summer and music?
We cover a wide range – from the latest music films to open-air cinema classics. From the “King of Rock ’n’ Roll” to the “King of Pop” – via the soft sounds of Jeff Buckley to the critical and cautionary tones of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. But since open-air cinema is also simply about having fun and spreading party spirit, “Dirty Dancing” and “Mamma Mia” will be back on the programme over the course of the season. Whether you’re wearing flared trousers and carrying a (now legal) joint in your pocket, or a (always legal) bottle of wine – “Head to the cinema for a summer of music!”
Our open-air season begins on 21 May – with three performances a day – and runs until 13 September.
Doors open 30 minutes before the start of each performance. Tickets purchased online can be cancelled up to 60 minutes before the start of the performance.
We’re looking forward to the new season and to seeing you all, and we hope for many lovely summer days and balmy summer nights at Berlin’s cosiest open-air cinema!

FAQ
Openinghours: daily 30 minutes before the start of the screening.
Release of the movie schedule, ticket purchases: We plan the seasonal schedule on an ongoing basis. If you notice gaps, this doesn’t mean there are no screenings on that day—it just means we’re still figuring it out. Once the schedule is released, you can buy tickets online.
Payment methods at the cinema: Cash and all major cashless methods.
Do I have to pay additional fees when purchasing online? No, we cover the fees for the transaction service provider (price parity).
Save online: There is a 5% discount on standard tickets and “standard” discounted tickets when purchased online.
Gift cards: We offer single-use gift cards, as well as booklets of 5 and 10 tickets. These are also valid at our main location, the Hackesche Höfe Kino. We also have special gift cards for children. Please visit the online shop on our website (we’ll then send your order to the address of your choice) or come to the box office. Other gift cards are also available online, but these can only be redeemed online as well.
Additional fees, e.g., for extended screenings or special events: There is no surcharge for extended screenings in the “regular” program. However, surcharges are necessary and possible for certain events featuring guests or additional programming, such as concerts, readings, or charity events.
Discounts: As is standard practice, discounted tickets are available for schoolchildren, apprentices, students and seniors.
In addition, there are some special benefits: People with very limited financial means who receive social assistance can purchase the Berlinpass ticket discreetly at the ticket counter for €4.40. Acceptable proof includes, for example, the Berlin-Ticket S for the ÖNVP or other documentation showing that the individual receives basic income support or supplementary benefits.
There is also a ticket available for volunteers, upon presentation of the appropriate ID.
Companions of individuals with a “B” on their ID receive a free ticket.
Language versions: Please note the abbreviations after the film title. We generally screen original versions with German subtitles (OmU). German films are shown with English subtitles whenever possible (OmeU). We always show children’s films in the German version. “OV” stands for “Original Version” without subtitles. If there is nothing after the title, we show the German version. If in doubt, call 030 283 46 03.
Weather & Ticket Validity, Refund Policy: We screen in all cases—that’s our motto. However, there is an exception in the event that weather conditions could pose a danger. In such cases, we base our decision on two factors.
1) The warnings issued by the German Weather Service (DWD). In the event of wind/storms, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and prolonged rain, the DWD issues warning levels ranging from Yellow (Level 1) through Orange, Red, and Purple (Levels 2 through 4). Starting at levels 3 and 4, we do not perform or cancel the show. At level 2, we make a decision based on the on-site situation. It should be noted that the DWD’s information is, in part, merely forecasts, which—based on the experience of recent years—are often issued somewhat sooner than in the past. We also form our own assessment.
2) Some weather events occur very suddenly, even without forecasts or warnings, and are sometimes limited to a small local area. Therefore, our shift supervisors have the right to cancel shows—even without consulting management—if they have a “gut feeling” that something is wrong.
For guests: You have until 60 minutes before the start of the show to cancel tickets purchased online for film screenings—this does not apply to live events.
If we cancel, you are entitled to a refund or a replacement. HOWEVER—a cancellation is made to protect guests, staff, and property. In such cases, staff have important tasks to perform to protect guests, ensure their own safety, and secure the property. Processing refund claims is definitely not one of these tasks. Please submit your claims at a later time to: support(at)kinoheld.de.
Can I bring my dog? (This also applies to other pets.) Please don’t. For one thing, the animal might really suffer if things get loud or hectic. For another, other guests might feel disturbed, even if—in your experience and judgment—your dog is very sweet, clean, and well-behaved.
Smoking: Smoking is prohibited on the Neue Bühne (NB). During performances on the Main Stage (HB), smoking is permitted with the restriction that you check with your neighbors and refrain from smoking if they are bothered by the smoke.
Food and Drink: Bringing your own food and drinks is not permitted here and, as is the case at other venues, is generally not customary. Our bar offers cold drinks, wine, coffee, and tea, along with a good selection of snacks ranging from nachos to popcorn to chocolate at what we consider fair prices. This applies especially to alcoholic beverages. We do not accept six-packs, but we won’t take anyone’s water bottle away—especially not during children’s screenings.
Speaking of which—we make an exception to the rule for children’s birthday parties. Birthday cake is allowed.
Accessibility: Our cinema is accessible or has minimal barriers, but unfortunately it is not fully wheelchair-accessible. Wheelchair users can use the new restroom located a few meters from the cinema. It must be unlocked with the universal key for accessible restrooms, which you can borrow from us. We open a separate gate for people in wheelchairs. Please let us know at the entrance. There is a ramp there that is difficult to navigate alone, and we’ll help with that as well.
Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing: Nearly all screenings are subtitled - except for children's screenings in the afternoon.
Parking: Best to park on Columbiadamm; from there, it’s about a 400-meter walk.
Where and when can I reach the cinema’s staff? You’ll find the most important contacts on our Contact & Directions page.
I’ve lost something? Send an email to post(at)openair-neukoelln.de. We’ll try to respond within 24 hours.
Can I rent the cinema for commercial or private use? No—all evenings are reserved for the public, and after the season ends, we’ll quickly dismantle everything and return the grounds to nature.
Can I bring my toddler or infant? Please always call the box office at 030 2834603 and ask our staff for their opinion. Sometimes movies are simply too loud for infants and toddlers, even if they’re asleep, or something happens that children might not yet understand cognitively but can sense.
Why can't I make a reservation online? Because too many people have made online reservations but didn't show up. As a result, tickets for early-evening shows were often sold out, even though there were still empty seats in the end. If you’re part of a larger group or have a valid reason (e.g., you’ve booked a babysitter, it’s your first date with a new flame, you’re traveling from far away, etc.), call the box office starting at 2:00 PM (030 2834603) or email post(at)openair-neukoelln.de. Reserved tickets must be picked up at the box office no later than 15 minutes before the show starts.
Canceling tickets at the last minute: “My dog ate my car,” “the police have cordoned off all of Kreuzberg,” and “my mom locked me in my room”… There are always reasons to miss a movie, and that’s exactly when you have no cell service or the patience to cancel tickets. In such cases, please email us as soon as possible at post(at)openair-neukoelln.de and we’ll take care of it.
Old Voucher: I have a pretty old voucher, and I’ve even washed it once. Is it still valid? We’d be pretty silly if we sent you home with it and you went around telling everyone how nitpicky we are. Under EU law, vouchers are valid for at least 3 years from the date of purchase. But we don’t take that too strictly. Sometimes vouchers from old series pop up that even the veterans on our team can’t remember. It’s always worth a try.
Does the commercial run before or after the movie? An older lady once asked us this question. There are no stupid questions. Go ahead and ask!
Discounted Tickets: Groups from assisted living facilities and other support services for people with limited funds for culture and leisure: That’s what our Pro Bono project is for. Send us an email at probono(at)hoefekino.de and let us know your plans for a movie outing. Your group, including accompanying adults, won’t have to pay anything, and we’ll cover the cost from our donation fund. Please try not to contact us on the day of your planned visit.
Our status: We are a truly independent company and have been since 1996. We have been operating the open-air cinema since 2001.
